Living the Dash

My pastor back in The Woodlands gave me this signed copy of his book, "One Month to Live". Him and his wife's names are Kerry and Chris Shook if someone who reads this wants to look them up. The four universal principles they have in a "month-to-live" lifestyle (and I think should be an everyday lifestyle) are: to live passionately, to love completely, to learn humbly, and to leave boldly. You should go pick up a copy if you get a chance, or want something inspirational. It'll change your life-- fo sho.

But seriously, Kerry and Chris made a great point in this book. There are a lot of things which we can't control in our lives. We can't control the date we are born, who are parents are, or the culture we endure. The only one who knows is God. But there is one thing we do get to control.

We get to choose how we're going to use our dash. There may not be certain events we have direct control over, but we do get to choose how we're going to live our life. Time is the most valuable currency we have as people, and we get to choose how to use it! How cool is that?

"Teach us to number our days and recognize how few they are; help us to spend them as we should" (Psalm 90:12). So I guess all I have to do now...is figure out how I'm going to use that dash.
